The letter that ended the remaining compensation stream

Paul Revere titled the document “Forfeiture of Commissions” and stated that it was “now and forever” forfeiting all rights to commissions, bonuses, or other compensation.

What the letter says

The June 1 letter states that The Paul Revere Life Insurance Company decided to forfeit all of Bert van der Werff's rights to commissions, bonuses, or other compensation. It repeats allegations concerning the January termination and post-termination conduct. Bert denies those allegations.

“Now and forever forfeiting all your rights to commissions, bonuses, or other compensation.”

The letter was signed by Raul Mota, identified as Assistant Vice President, Sales Contract Compliance, and copied Erika Wasiak.

What it meant to me

The sentence does not separately use the word “renewals.” In my understanding as the producer who received the letter, however, “commissions” and “other compensation” included the remaining renewal commissions generated by the book of business I had built. From June 1 forward, I understood that Paul Revere would pay me no further renewal income.

Those renewals were not an employee pension. They were the long-term commission stream I had spent twelve years building and regarded as retirement security. In practical terms, the June 1 decision eliminated the remaining economic value I expected to receive from that work.

Why the posted copy is redacted

The web copy removes personal contact information, unrelated nonparty business names, and the handwritten signature. The redactions protect privacy and do not change the operative compensation language. The original source document controls.

The letter reflects Paul Revere's stated position. Bert's interpretation and denial are identified as his own. No court finding is represented here.
