Independence and identification

ColonialLifeComplaint.com is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or operated by Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company, The Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, Colonial Voluntary Benefits, Unum Group, Kathy Pratt, Erika Wasiak, Raul Mota, or any other defendant. Company and individual names are used to identify the parties and subject matter of a public lawsuit.

Allegations, denials, and unresolved issues

The verified complaint contains allegations. Defendants deny wrongdoing and have asserted legal and contractual defenses. Except where expressly identified as a source-document statement, first-person denial, personal opinion, or court ruling, nothing on this site should be read as an adjudicated fact. The official docket, filed papers, and orders control.

First-person statements and opinion

Statements that Bert van der Werff never conditioned Colonial or Paul Revere coverage on another program are his firsthand denial and sworn litigation position. Statements advising agents, brokers, or employers to choose another company are his personal opinions based on his experience. Readers should review the cited record and reach their own conclusions.

Free speech, accuracy, and context

This site is intended as lawful personal commentary and a fair account of judicial proceedings. The right to speak does not make accuracy, attribution, context, court orders, or privacy optional. Disputed factual content is therefore attributed to filings or source documents, and the defendants' general position is acknowledged.

Search visibility and use of names

Titles, descriptions, structured data, internal links, and exact party names are used so people searching for this lawsuit and its named parties can locate accurate case-related context. Search visibility does not convert allegations into findings. This site does not create fake reviews, impersonate anyone, conceal its identity, or use private personal information.

Children, family, and financial privacy

The website intentionally omits detailed information about children, private family proceedings, schedules, household arrears, and other sensitive finances. Courtesy PDFs contain additional web-publication redactions. The official court-filed documents remain the controlling record.

No harassment, targeting, or interference

This site does not ask anyone to contact, threaten, harass, review-bomb, dox, target, or interfere with any defendant, employee, employer, policyholder, witness, attorney, judge, court employee, or other person. Do not attempt to influence testimony, jurors, proceedings, business relationships, or settlement discussions on the plaintiffs' behalf.

No confidential or protected material

Do not send or publish confidential discovery, settlement communications, privileged material, private recordings, policyholder or employee information, medical information, account numbers, information identifying minors, or anything subject to a protective, sealing, arbitration, or confidentiality order. Relevant evidence should be preserved and provided to qualified counsel through an appropriate secure process.

Third-party complaint submissions

The “More complaints” section contains selected accounts submitted by third parties. Each published page identifies the material as the submitter's account. Publication does not mean this site independently verified every statement, endorses every characterization, or determined that any person or company is liable. A verified email confirms control of an email inbox; it does not establish that the submitted account is true.

No automatic publication

A submission is not published merely because the form was completed, an email was received, or a link was opened. The submitter must confirm the email address, and an administrator must then review an editable public version and affirmatively select publication. This manual step is intended to reduce impersonation, accidental publication by automated email-security scanners, privacy violations, and unsupported accusations.

Moderation and editing

The site may edit or redact a third-party submission for clarity, length, tone, privacy, attribution, search presentation, legal review, or consistency without intentionally changing its substance. The site may request supporting material, decline a submission, add context, invite a response, remove a complaint, or publish a correction. Moderation is not a guarantee of accuracy and does not transfer the submitter's responsibility for the content.

Official-proceeding reports versus independent submissions

Pages summarizing the filed lawsuit are intended to fairly report public judicial proceedings and source documents. A third-party complaint that is not part of an official proceeding is different: it should not be assumed to receive the same legal treatment as a fair report of a court filing. Submitted accounts are therefore separately labeled and subject to distinct moderation standards.

Submitter responsibility

Submitters attest that their accounts are firsthand or properly attributed, materially truthful to the best of their knowledge, and stripped of prohibited private or protected information. Submitters remain responsible for what they submit. The site does not promise publication and does not become the submitter's lawyer, agent, or representative.

Corrections, removal, and right of reply

A person who believes a material statement is inaccurate may identify the exact statement and provide a public filing or reliable source supporting a correction. A named person or organization may submit a concise response for consideration. Submitters may request correction or removal. Material requests will be evaluated individually; no request automatically requires publication, alteration, or removal.

Privacy and data handling

The complaint system collects only the information described in the privacy notice. Private contact information, security hashes, access tokens, and moderation notes are not included in the public complaint record. The submission rules are set out in the complaint submission guidelines.

Procedural updates

No procedural status will be changed based only on memory, rumor, or an incomplete docket aggregator. Updates should be based on an actual public docket entry or order. The official ECF/PACER record controls.

This website is not legal advice and does not create an attorney-client relationship. Publication during active litigation can have legal and strategic consequences. No wording, disclaimer, design, or search-engine practice can guarantee that a party will not object to the site or attempt to use it in litigation.
